I was a really bad mommy tonight - not intentionally, but still, I felt horrible, but luckily, Sam is such an easy going baby.  I’ve been meaning to go to IKEA all week to get some basic things for the apartment but was told not to go on the weekend since it would be a zoo.  Judging from experience in the US, I took that as good advice so tonight was the only night I was able to go.  We left the apt around 7:30pm - I know, a bit late, but I thought it would be a quick trip.  We didn’t need furniture, just some closet baskets, silverware tray, some containers, etc. so we didn’t need to spend time browsing.  However, it took us 20 mins to hail a cab, 20 mins there, and then 20 mins to pick up everything… but it was crazy. I think everyone in Shanghai was at IKEA tonight.  Who would have thought that on a Friday night people would be at IKEA?  Plus, there’s a big sale starting tomorrow so I really didn’t want to go on the weekend but it was soooo crowded tonight.  You could barely walk down the path, and it was soooooo HOT!  I know the AC was on but w/a billion people in there, it was a sauna.  But we got through as quickly as possible only to get in stuck in the checkout line for an HOUR!  Oh, and they don’t bag your items for you and you have to pay for the plastic bags to take your stuff home.  So, ok, we’re done, right?  No - now we have to wait for a cab in their taxi pick-up station.  It wouldn’t have been so bad if it wasn’t a million degrees down there.  Poor Sam - she was so good the whole time but it was past her bedtime and she was so hot… her little face was so sweaty.  We had to wait a really long time for a cab.  But, once we got into the air conditioned cab, Sam passed out for the rest of the night.  I know it wasn’t a good idea and I’ve learned my lesson… Just another note to self - never go to IKEA in the evening or on the weekend. I can’t even imagine what tomorrow will be like.  Surprisingly, it was a bit comforting to see all the same types of furniture and names…
